Default temp sensor location 345 AFI full kit

I have an AFI kit on a 345. I've seen it recommended in a few places to put the temp sensor in the bung on the driver side of the water neck. That plug is not wanting to come out. Are any of the bungs on an aluminum RPT spreadbore manifold acceptable alternatives? I thought I read a thread where Bill mentioned which ones on the manifold would work, but I can't find it now.

My temp sensor is in the manifold on the drivers side just behind the throttle linkage assembly between cyl 5 and 7. I believe the water neck is the best place tho.

This is where it's at now, between 6 and 8

As Darrell said the drivers side of the thermostat housing is preferred but where you have it will work.
Just takes longer for the temp to build there.

Make sure you use at least a 180 robert shaw style stat.

Thanks to both of you. I'll leave that wire long for now. One day when I'm really bored, I'll get the plug out of the thermostat housing. I've got enough gremlins to track down to keep me busy for a while, though.

In saying this, do you think the 195 RS stat is more appropriate to be used with the GM FI?

I haven't seen the need yet.
I have driven in many climates and haven't changed the stock tables that involve temp input.
Other then the desired idle speed based on temp.

That's why it's important to read the temp accurately.
If it's always reading cold the ecm will supply fuel and timing corrections based on the temp.

The T-stat housing is where the water hits temp to open the T-stat so it's the best place to read the temp.

Newer engines run at higher temps supposedly to be more efficient. So that's your choice.
