Default Re: 3-speed Borg Warner T-15 Manual Transmission issue

I dont know if the amc 258 and T-90 are original to my scout II but on the back of my 2wd T-90 it does not have the texas pattern like on my dana 20 transfer case. I bought the transfer case thinking it would work but it doesnt. I have no problem switching the tranny. What is the most pentiful and cheap route to go for a tranny that will bolt up to the amc 258 and also bolt up to the dana 20 transfer case. I would like a 4spd but will do with a 3spd, and also with the new tranny setup i would prefer not having to use adapters because those things cost alot. Thank You for any help you can give.

The absolute cheapest route for you to go right now has got to be another 4wd version T90. IIRC, the bell you have will fit only the T90 pattern. Later setups with the T15 3 speed will be drilled for both the T15 3sp or T18/19 4sp. Someone else will chime in to be sure, but I think the v8 T90s are the same as the 6 cyl in terms of input shaft length and diameter. If so they could be sourced from a v8 800 as well as a 6 cyl.

258 4 speed bells are not uncommon. Someone may be looking to move some parts from a dead rig. It shouldn't break the bank. 4 speed ttransmissions are very plentiful....if you need to go 4 speed I'd buy the bell from Anywhere, USA and source the 4 speed locally.

EDIT: If you get the Scout 800 v8 T90 make sure you use the correct bullgear for your transfer case.
