I have a 71' Pick up with three on the tree. I am looking to convert it to a floor shifter. I have the T-24 tranny. Anyone done this? If so, please chime in with advice as to how it went and what you did. (universal shifter vs. specific unit, linkage issues, etc. Thanks in advance. Rich

Hi Rich.
I went through a similar deal with my 68 1000C and its 3 on the tree. I thought about a universal Hurst 3 speed floor shifter, but Ive used them before and never did like the feel of it, though it did work well for a while. I never had good luck with them in the long term. Eventually the bushings would wear, the shifter would start to hang, linkage would bend, etc. Hurst Indy 3 Speed Floor Shifter for trucks ![]() While I was still driving my 1000C and pondering the shifter swap, the 3 speed trans ate a gear. I then parked it and looked for another three speed. Talk about "unobtainium", at least down here. I couldnt find one. I then decided to swap to a 4 speed. I found a 2wd T19 in FL and swapped the owner an 800 rear seat frame for it. (Thanks Rusty )About a year and 4 hurricanes later it arrived via truck freight for $120.00. I had some issues wioth the t/o bearing collar being too short to allow full t/o bearing travel, but once I replaced the collar with a longer one (thanks Jeff ) it bolted in and works great, despite the minor leakage from the mod I had to make. Thread about the swap here, http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=50145 Let me know if you decide to swap in a 4 speed and have any questions. My 1000C is a blast to drive with the 4 speed. Mike

Not sure which trans you have, but Jeeps ran T86,90,14,15, and 150's in their offerings. All with floor shifters. You would have to disassemble the trans and remove the existing side forks, but it would be a simple swap.

Thanks Mike. I was hoping to not do the 4 speed swap, just wanted to see if anyone had experience on moving the 3 speed off the column.
On a seperate note. In looking at your T'All, did you have the grill rechromed, or just cleaned it up yourself? Looking to freshen up my grill and liked what you did. Rich
