Default Door locks are unlocked after closing

Hello all,

I have kind of a unique issue.
On My 76 Scout II, when I lock my passengers door while it is open, then shut it, the door lock is down but you can reopen the door.
If I lock the door after it is closed, it remains locked.

This is not the "partialy open" door issue. The door is fully closed everytime.

If I lock it, close it, then push just a little bit more on the lock, it remains locked as well.

Oh, and if anyone knows where the tread is for the Scout 800 door lock modification is, would you please post it.
I cant seam to find it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks Rob

Not sure on IH but some old Mopars and new VW are like that. Keeps you from lovcking the keys in. You need the key to lock the doors. For reference my 69 Roadrunner does that

---As ruderunner stated, yours is only unique due to the later model Scout IIs allowing the door to close and stay locked. Most recent posting I have seen on the topic was on 12-08-2011 @ 05:14 PM where TheScoutMaster asked,
"Why do idiots insist on pushing the door lock down when getting out???"

---II forget who originally mentioned it, one of the long-timer members, but in that thread I give a brief explanation of how to alter the latch so you can make yours work like the later models do. I've done it on StoneThrower; It's very easy. Much simpler than reaming the door lock mounting holes & cutting the lock rods, so the doors will accept the later model Door Lock Cylinders.

What if you push the outside handle button in while shutting the door? I remember having a car that I had to do that with. Dont remember what car it was.

Thank you to all,..

This is a new issue.
I used to able to close the door when it was locked without issue.

I will try holding in the button.
The lock pin stays down,.. but it can go down about another 1/16" after the door has been closed. then it will not open up.
FYI,.. The drivers door does not have this issue.

Thomas,
I read that post as well.. found it a bit interesting.
That is what also sparked the thought of modifying my Scout 800's locks.
I have an extra set of locks (for my 800).. maybe its time to start experimenting.

Ok if its just one door more than likely its just the lock mechanism needs to be rebuilt. Sound likes its a little worn and popping up a hair when the door shuts.

Joker,

Thank you. That makes sense.

Anyone know where to get a rebuild kit?
Or anyone have a good working unit they don't want?

I have checked a couple of the LL vendors and I found the springs but not too much more.
