Default Project: Freedom scout

So no rest for the wicked! Now that Bluefish is out the door for a while. It's time to start the next build. I'm calling this one Freedom scout as its owner is currently protecting our right to freedom in far off sandy place right now. And since he is all about buying American and enjoying all the freedoms that living in the USA offers us. That said lets get to the truck!
Our subject this time is a nice little 1962 model 80 scout.
The objective will be to modernize this truck to be a more. Comfortable
Daily driver, as well as a few modifications for the sake of style and stance.
The to do list: all improvement and repairs will be in this order. Taking care of needed repairs first then diving into custom work as time and budget allow.
1. Rebuilt 152
2. Hamilton EFI
3. Fix minor electrical issues (finish up owner installed painless kit)
4. overhaul/upgrade brakes
5. Mild lift ( not sure how. Soa? Sua springs?)
6. Full roll cage
7. Custom bumpers

Sorry guys I forgot to take pictures when I started this. First things first we want a fresh clean motor in this truck for peace of mind. The truck is currently running without any major problems. But this truck is about to be reborn. So a clean slate is in order. To speed things along the owner Acuired another 152 to rebuild so it. Could be built without any down time to the truck. This will still save me time as this motor was already in pieces. All the short block parts have been droped off at the machine shop. I ran the first few parts through the parts washer and blast cabinet this evening. Sorry forgot the before pictures!
I'll post up pictures of the truck as is when it roll in the garage. And of parts as they get refurbished. That's it for now.

My old truck looks pretty good.
Lookin at the data plate made me laugh a bit (86 net HP @4400rpm). Guess I never really though about it with all the work I've done trying to add power to the stock 152. I don't think I've ever revved the motor past 3500rpm without cringing. I remember white knuckling it down I-45 going only 65mph @ 3200rpm sustained. Ran pretty good but seemed to systematically cause other components to fail...
Hamilton fuel injection is exciting!
I wonder if this could be one of the first 152's to get a Hamilton Kit...

Just out of curiosity...how beat is that 152 and why another when you have a few other options including and up to a V-8? There is an entire 304 for sale http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/s...d.php?t=106858
and i know i saw a complete drive line v-8 for a scout I somewhere. These are just questions as it appears that you are not going for a stock restore project. i know you have some good parts for that motor but it would seem that a 196 would be better still than the 152 and there are a few people doing some seriously cool things with that engine, as well as the turbo option.

I have been preoccupied by family things. to make a long story short, i recently had a death in the family. so that and the events leading up to it have made it hard to work. So thats, that. and as much as i care to say in a public forum. now on to the truck. The Al's liner was a diss appointment. I think it was a mixture of a lot of things. But we moved on. The tub was scuffed once again to smooth out the uneven areas left by Al's peeling. Then the HNR was resprayed where needed, and left to cure. Some mock up and fab work was done to sort out the clutch but not finished. And that's where it sat. Since last update. Today was the first real time I have touched things since then. In the down time Ben ordered a raptor liner kit. It had arrived a few days ago. So this afternoon the tub was cleaned and sprayed. I have to say this is a much more user friendly product. And has a finish much more like what Ben wanted (hindsight right?)
Anyway their standard kit was not enough to cover everything but close.
While it was drying I got back to sorting out the clutch. I have it all in place and it looks good. Got everything lined up as it needs to be. And can disengage the pressure plate if I use a cheater pipe on the arm. It releases with only a little throw needed. But it will have to remain untested at the moment since we can not produce the needed force at the master to make it work. Atleast not holding the master by hand. So hopefully from here on out. Things will go smoother than they have. I'll be at the station tomorrow so we'll leave it there. While the liner cures.
Btw. I'm having issues with photobucket at the moment. So I'll upload them when I can.
So if you chose next time would you use the raptor liner over Al's liner?

Absolutely!

There is a chance we messed up somewhere in the application process. There is also a slight chance we got a bad batch. A rep. of Al's is asking for a sample. I haven't sent one yet. They continue to claim that their product is superior tp any other DIY Bed Liner product on the market. That maybe true as there are many people that have used it with excellent results.

HOWEVER, U-Pol's Raptor Liner kit is TIP TOP. So far it is drying hard, not rubbery. You can control the pot life of Raptor Liner, giving you as long as one hour to apply Vs Al's 20 minutes max. (More like 8 minutes by our experience.)
Raptor Liner is designed to be applied with a schultz type gun but many Raptor kits include a gun for free. Far and above that crappy gun Al's sells.

Raptor Liner's application process is also outstanding.
Their product comes in 4 disposable shake, spray, throw away containers which proves their system is well thought out and TRUELY caters to the DIY'er. I like it so much I've already ordered another. Raptor liner does cost a little more than Al's but it is with out a doubt well worth the price!

Put it this way. I've never considered covering my exterior with bed liner till today.

HTH
