Default Turn signal switch install

The turn signals in my 1980 Scout II with tilt wheel do not cancel so I pulled the wheel and took a look. I also disassembled a 1976 non tilt column for comparison. Both wheels came off easily and showed signs of being open before. I did not find any broken parts as I expected, but I learned a bit about how these parts work.
My problem is that the picture of a tilt column in my shop manual is not very clear. It appears that the tilt column is different from the non tilt version. It has no lock plate and maybe some other differences.
Does any one have any clear pictures of reassembling a tilt column after a turn signal switch repair? I think I have a spacer or two missing and maybe some of the parts were previously installed wrong. I did not actually remove the switch from the tilt column, but the other pieces don't seem to want to go back together and I don't want to ruin anything.

Do you have the canceling cam? I looked up online GM or CHEVY steering column parts and came up with a couple exploded views. I got some of the parts at local auto store and some in the help section.

I have the part that cancels the switch. I think it may have been installed wrong before. The part that stopped me on reassembly was the big spring. After I got it in it didn't seem to be down far enough. Maybe I can find one of those online pictures you mentioned.

Look at www.steeringcolumnservices.com they have pictures of parts and exploded views that might help. On mine, I had two recessed areas where a lock ring could go. It took everything I had to get the spring pressed too get it on, I put it on the lower one on the shaft.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. My manual is a reproduction and many of the photos are very poor. I also found several videos on youtube, but I haven't had time to wade through them.
If that heavy spring goes under a second groove I'll have to get one of those spring compressors.

I thought I would post a finish to this question. After looking at several tools that would not work with a tilt column and reading up on turn signal installs, I ran across a post from about 5 years ago where a lady (yes a woman) said she put her canceling cam back in by pushing down with a deep well socket. I tried it and it worked perfect. The proper size socket pushes the clip ahead of it as you press the spring down and it pops into the groove. Duh!
Now my turn signals cancel and the horn honks like it should. The whole thing was so easy, I should have done it long ago.
