So i talked my neighbor into s wapping in a tbi unit to replace his quadrajet. i took the wiring diagram that has all the colors from this site and soldered all the wires to look identical to the diagram. I am a helicopter electrician, so im pretty sure i wired it right. The issue is 1. the engine is running a msd distriburator that had a 4 pin module (i removed it and jupered wires across, that made the engine run good). I have tried to set the timing and it seems to be way advanced, more than 30 degrees. also the distriburator has the msd coil on the cap, and i dont know if the firing order is right. PROBLEM 2. the engine idles great, accelerates when you hit the gas, it even drives down the road good, but after 3-5 min it just dies, like power is cut from the computer. PROBLEM 3. the est is mounted on a aluminum plate on the fender well, and it gets really hot. ecm is 7727. no knock sensor or oil press sensor wired in. Let me know any things i can try. thanks.

Did you do the initial setup procedures?
Some buick and olds and pontiacs turn opposite rotation. Did you verify the timing and rotor/reluctor phasing? What direction does the rotor turn when you crank the engine? Is the mech and vacuum adv disabled? What size alum are you using for the module? Did you use the paste? Pics? Is it grounded properly? Compare it to the mounting base in the distr. A 7727 is normally a MPI ecm are you sure it's not a 7747? What is the code on the chip label?

my bad. it is a 7747 computer from a 88 chevy truck 8cyl. i have not verified the rotation of dist. I let my neighbor bolt the grounds to chasis, so i will verify them. also the aluminum piece is not that thick but i will verify the gage and no no paste. no mech advance.

Starting similar swap myself, not sure what my timeline will be. I'd love to see pics of what you have.
Dist rotation is clockwise. |

If the buick 350 distr rotation is CW then the rotor and reluctor phasing setup in the FAQs apply correctly.
The rotor should be on the trailing edge of the cap terminal with reluctor lined up with the pickup.
