Hi guys been researching and thinking a bit lately and I want to convert my SSII doors from canvas to a solid bottom and glass sliding top windows with a lockable latch. To cut down on wind noise and add some safety with locking doors.

Now I can figure out the bottom solid door and I have found a latch but I can't figure out how to make sliding glass windows. I know you can buy them for a Jeep and possibly build a frame around them to fit inside scout SSII metal door frame but the Jeep windows sell for around $400 which is way too expensive.

-I have pics of a white fiberglass scout up on blocks with black soft top and the sliding glass windows I would like to have. I am not sure who made them or if he bought them. I believe he is from Illinois.

-does anyone know who this is or if I can buy this or how to make sliding windows?

-I am mostly confused on how to make the frame for them to slide in and seal properly and slide o.k. Any ideas?????

I will try to post a pic of the scout with the sliding windows.....

I can't tell in these pics how the frames are made or work???

i made a set from a pair of sliders from an old pick up cap, wish i would have looked for a better angle as the windshield frame ,but i cut them down and used plexi in place of the glass if you want i will post a pic or two

Yes I would be very interested in seeing your windows! Do you know what type of vehicle you got them out of?

    Thanks,

    Brandon

Thanks for the pics. I see what you mean about the shape of the window. I would be careful to make sure see traffic when you are at an intersection if the windows are too small. I know I sometimes have an issue with my rollcage and off road lights mounted on the windshield frame. Have you looked into trying one of the jeep sliding windows. they cost alot but maybe we can find a used set and take the window and frame out and weld or fit it into a scout door?????

    Awesome thanks for the help!!!!

Any other ideas or good places to find sliding windows to use????

    Brandon

i had bought a set from a 95 wrangler fit was close if you used a reg. scout roof but for the ss i made the roof come up to the inner door and they were to big for that but would work well in a bgger opening

The guy who makes the doors above is Real. He's up in Canada. Does mainly boat/kayak fiberglass stuff. But also does scout stuff. I have a set of those doors in the shed waiting for my SSII project to start. Not sure exactly how it goes together. I can possibly send you a copy of the instructions if you want. I do know there are no latches or hinges included. Still looking for the best fit for that.
When I bought mine they were less than 400 for the set IIRC.

Did you cut down a traveler top? It looks good!

BTW - The transition your Scout has undergone as recorded in your album is pretty cool. I love the mural on the tailgate!

I sold a complete set up all original a couple yrs ago. Can find the post under great lakes binders. There was a place here inichigan that made the fiberglass top and fiberglass doors that went in the as model. Another club member in Michigan bought the set up from me. I had posted pictures I think in the classifieds when it was for sale

This is looks to be the same type of top as mine. Mine is in rough shape, however.
