You might try to give Scout Connection a call as they do as close to original restorations as I have seen. They may know off the top of their heads where as we would have to search for hours and may still not know the answer.

Mine had the inserts in the tailgate for the International script, thats the only way I knew there was something there, if we knew if the Scout II emblem had pins, then it may confirm or deny it being on certain trucks.

Some more pictures to look at. This is off a Midas. The international *block* was glued on. I am pretty sure the Scout II was pinned in place...

Now, Gregorio's was an overseas SSII. His has the international emblem, but not the Scout II. However, I believe his was restored, so that may not have been put back on.

Now, this is an interesting example. This is an unrestored SSII

So, it looks like both the Scout II and the International block were standard fare. That is not to say other possibilities were not possible, however.

I think Hooper just confirmed what I was saying, the Scout II emblem changed to a sticker on the 78 model. I think the ones that had the stickers have been repainted and the sticker wasn't replaced.

My international script was pinned. Thats the only way I knew it had been there!

I doubt you could find the sticker by the time most of these were repainted...

However, I am not sure it is a year issue...

    Herb's has a sticker, but it is a '77...

My 77 SSII has the Scout II with pins and the International below it like many of the above photos. I'm not sure how the International is applied. Were the plastic tailgate inserts standard equipment? Apparently not, as the Orange one pictured above has the decals on the tailgate. I always assumed they were standard and most had long ago broke and been removed.

    Hooper, which one was Herb's?

I always thought the tailgate insert was an option. Maybe I am wrong.

The tailgate insert was a dealer option, and not a common one, either.'

Hooper, unless I have been told wrong and the FAQ is wrong, thats a 78. It has the new tail lights. That started in 2/78. I guess they could have been changed out, but if the rest of the truck was original, then why?

    It has a 77 VIN... G0052GGD40089

So, as with most things IH, there are not many production rules that don't have exceptions... ;)

I should have known better! There are no rules to IH production. Ok lets say if it had the plastic tail lights, it had the sticker? How long till someone can shoot holes in that hypothesis? ;)
