Been looking at lizard skin as suggested by a forum memeber. Looks like good stuf, but can anybody recomend a cheap spray gun for it? Don't want to spend the money on a high end gun to use just once.

Will a normal auto spray gun work to spray it? I do have access to an airless spray gun, will this work?

Going on a fiberglass tub and steel front fenders and doors and hood.

    Thanks.

I think it is thicker closer to but not quite undercoating then paint. Not sure is paint guns would work but maybe with a bigger tip. Try to look for a picture of their gun and compare nozzle style and size.

thanks, I know they recomend spraying, but not sure of the viscosity of it. Well, not ready for it yet, maybe do a little more research and see what they recomend for a sprayer.

I haven't tried it but I think a shutz gun would work. I have heard of people using it to spay Hurculiner.

FWIW, This stuff was recommended to me by a fellow IH guy, one who is pretty thorough in his research. It's supposedly pretty close to Lizardskin but $50/gal rather than Lizardskin's $80/gal. Even if it's not quite as good, I can live with it considering the cost savings. The customer service was pretty good, and it arrived in a timely fashion.

My Traveler is in the middle of its frame-off, so I can't give you an opinion of its performance just yet.

    Sounds like good stuff.

Can you apply lizard skin, or E-block or any of the other coatings with just a roller and brush, or does it have to be sprayed?

    Thanks

I used this product http://www.fatmat.com/liquid/gallon.html over two coats of MasterSeries Silver Permanent Rust Sealer/Surfacer. It went on real easy using a roller and brush. The nice part about this stuff is it goes on blue and dries black to ensure good coverage. I picked it up on eBay from the manufacturer for under $50. It goes a long way!

I like the looks of this product, will do a little reading, sounds like what I'm looking for. I want to seal the raw glass and sound proff the front fenders and such. Want a decent heat shield for the motor firewall and for the tail pipes as well.

    Thanks.

If you want, I can put a little bit in a jar or pint paint can and mail it to you so you can try it out.

Thanks, I apreciate it, but don't worry about it. It sounds like it'd work perfect. Just need something to seal the raw fiberglass and act as a heat shield.

    Thanks,
    Will

I used lizard skin ceramic heat control on the inside tub of my 800. Used a harbor freight undercoat gun and it worked fine. Just need to clean between uses. Need to transfer the paint to a bottle that will fit your undercoat gun. I found that a 1qt? Gator aid bottle fits ok.

U Pols gun is an undercoat gun exact same as harbor freights.

I used both to spray the lizard skin and the texture is exactly th same between the two guns.

The only people who make a specific gun for Lizard Skin is the people at Lizard Skin. I haven’t seen the texture from lizard skins gun but know that the harbor freight / u pol gun got the job done and it looks perfect. Uniform thickness as well.
