I was told when I bought this it was a SV266 and I've operated on this assumption for 8 years. I know it is either a 266 or a 304 at least the gaskets for valley, valve-covers, intake, exhaust, and oil pan were purchased for an sv266. I know it's not the original motor at least. Something started nagging me the other day and so I started hunting for identifying marks this is all I could find: From the drivers side head to the rear of the block under the exhaust manifold 216-864-R1 or 216-364-R1 Passenger side "ID Boss" next to the fuel pump location: UG ? From the drivers side just behind the oil filter: 217146-R2 or 217148-R2 From the front of the block passenger side below the head. old pictures from when I replaced the valley cover gasket and intake gaskets 217145 R2 (6)
By a 266 I assume that means SV266 as I haven't seen any information on a non SV266, by EE I'm going to guess something related to smog? What identifier gives you 266 out of the pictures I shared?
yes , SV -266,smallest V8 Ih made & the 1st. EE i think mean's exhaust emission ? the 1st pic of the head #, i've gotta list of interchange & I.D. #'s from the dealership dad & gpa had pre-'71.. jeff
Jeff has you covered but just for future reference, this came up a short time ago. While learning new things , 'some' of the 266's ID are stamped on the drivers side tab instead of the passengers side. http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/index.php?threads/motor-id.90394/#post-593375
ye ah,i will when i find the NEW copie's i hid away so they not get lost. the 1 i use is soo faded an torn, i need to use a magnifing glass to see most of them. so this copy will not make a good candidate to turn loose into the wild . the thing is, which manual did i put them in.? gotta look thru about 75-100 book's to find them. BUT, when i do,i will !
Driver side tab is blank. Edit: I see now in the thread (images don't load on home connection) that would be behind or possible below the power steering bracket. I'll check there when I get home. That would be most excellent!
