International Harvester published a set of booklets that they called Shop Talks for International Servicemen. The Shop Talks were service instructions that either discussed service procedures not covered in the standard truck service manuals, or they expanded upon topics covered but in much greater detail. They came with very good photographs to demonstrate procedures, and very explicit instructions. Most people don't know about them, not even the dyed-in-the-wool Binderphiles. I learned about them from two friends that worked at Binder Books, who showed them to me when I was looking for some good information for an M-5H-6 I was working with. If you have a service manual that covers any of the following topics, you should get a copy of the Shop Talks for your library. They really are much better information that that listed in the standard service manuals.

There are at least 48 different topics covered. Below is a list of all Shop Talks that Binder Books has, listed by Shop Talk Number, Topic, Book Number, Issue Date, and number of pages. If you want to order a copy, visit the links above, and then call or e-mail them for a reprinted copy.

I know this is an old thread.....but I have a copy of #45. I have all originals and am only missing 23,24,29,35,36, and 46. There are also some that were revised and have a "r" after the number i.e. I have 28 and 28r. I have multiples of a few of them, but I do not know off had which ones.

The list below is taken from the list of Shop talks that I have. It seems to me that after number 48 they quit numbering them. The dates of each manual are in parenthesis at the end.

CTS-169 48 -Electrical System Diagnosis Regulator Maintenance (4-5-51)
    CTS-170 -Rear Axle (Model R-100 Truck) (2-22-54)
    CTS-171 -HNS Transmission (2-22-54)
    CTS-172 -Transfer Case (Timken T-32) (5-15-54)
    CTS-1173 -Automatic Transmission (8-9-54)
    CTS-1174 -HNS Overdrive Transmission (8-9-54)
CTs-1175 -CAB (Model CO Trucks) (11-17-54)
CTS-1176 -Clutch Overhaul (Model Rockford RT-11 Clutch) (1-14-55)

I don't have those but I do have all the "Sales Engineering News Letter"s, "Motor Truck Service Letter"s, " "B" GENERAL LETTER M.T. No. __"s and "Fleet Service News Letter"s from 6/10/63-8/13/54. Some of these mention your CTS-#s and what line , word or paragraph needs to be changed and why. Michael
