Posted this in diesel tech yesterday, but there doesn’t seem to be much traffic over there. Just wanted to share some pictures of my 6.9 swap and generally show off my new Ride I picked up over the summer. This is my first scout, but not my first engine swap. Feel free to ask any questions.

I’m sorry if the order of the photos is a little jumbled. I’m trying to get this posted for I have to go to work :4x4:

I thought JJ's build was fast....but I think you take the cake. Lots of work for one day LOL!!! Looks awesome. Bummer about the rear end.

And there’s more pics to come! The scout was sitting in the field for about 20 years before I picked it up. Hence the motivation for the engine swap. I think the Dana 44 died due to a combination of rust(I did change the gear oil) and about 300 hp worth of turbo diesel power! I will get into all the power mods that are done to her later

The hilarious thing is is that the rear end wasn’t making any kind of noise at all. I went to do a second oil change and gear gravel fell out all over the palace:no:. Oh well, but at least it gave me the excuse to go from 3.73s to 3.08s anyway. Plus I’ve always been meaning to teach myself how to do ring and pinion set up! I’m in my early 20s so I figured I gotta learn sometime.....

Why would you want to drop to 3.08s?

Very nice work! What was your source for the engine/gear box? Any idea the gear ratios?

I’m planning on keeping the 235/85/16s. With the 3.73s I was turning almost 2600rpm to go 55-60ish. With the 3:08s it turns 2100rpm. Plus I'm now getting about 28mpg Highway. Don’t worry though, I can still take off in second and smoke the tires to the rev limiter all the way down the block

Engine and transmission are from a donor 1983 F250 I bought. Transmission is a wide ratio ford T19. I converted the scout to hydraulic clutch using the Ford parts, and put the scout Dana 20 behind it using a novac adapter

If anyone has any more questions about this swap please ask them. I googled my eyeballs out trying to research everything before actually pulling the trigger on the donor truck and would be more than happy to share any of my hard-won research and experience. Everyone I talked to said it wouldn’t fit and would be too heavy/under powered(hence my username lol) through this form I did find two members who had actually done it in real life. Based on their success I decided to go for it. On top of that I managed through happenstance to meet another member of this form in person. His 7.3 Idi swap into a terra is almost done, and throughout our projects we’ve been able to share tips, tricks, and barter Parts.

Big question for me is how loud is it? In the cab.....is it a real teeth rattler / no conversations inside?

It’s at least as quiet as the donor truck. The turbo quiets it down a lot. As for exhaust I’m running a single 3 inch with a large round magnaflow Straight through muffler. I played with the idle and even retarded the timing slightly to make the engine idle as least intrusive as possible. I’ve ridden around in a SD33T scout once(with a stock exhaust) and it’s about on par with that.

I thought you might be "challengeaccepted" but I'm not a grammar major.

The goal for this project is to have a nice summertime cruiser that gets good mileage so I can take it on long-distance camping trips and still have plenty of power for pulling the pass near my house. It will get driven on Logging roads and such but I’ve put a lot of work into the body and want to keep it nice. A big part of building this is to keep it driving nicely on the highway for long trips. Because of that I plan to get the AC running before summer.

So what all do you need from the donor truck?

    Engine, trans? What radiator?

Could you just swap the bellhousing to the IH T-19 or are the Inputa completely different?

I assume that Novak adapter plate could work on a dana 300 too?

    I like this idea!
