Found this is my garage this morning!!!
Must be from Santa! (I left a peppermint candy cane on the work bench) :stuart:

Pic 1: V304E engine on stand, with 4 bbl. RPT intake, Stan's 601Y headers, powder coated valve covers, Isky 252/262 Cam, Melling 3336S, and diamond bore cylinders
Pic 2: Nine post ball/cup rocker arms on top of ported heads with three-angle valves, Schneider 300# springs
Pic 3: Bottom end with Ishihara Johnson crank scrape and ARP rod bolts. Crack / rods / pistons / balancer / flywheel assembly was dynamic balanced to 6000 RPM by Gary's Machine, here in Tucson.

Hmmm .... Think it will run ??

Yes, it is. I have about two hours on it. First oil change was after 20 minutes at 2000 RPM. Re-tightened intake manifold bolts at one hour. Drove it to work last week.

No ... I have been thinking about it, but I have a hot date / anniversary / valentines.
I took Lisa out all day yesterday, to survey / inventories 52 recreational shooting sites in the Pass.
Everything is looking good, but the electric line locks couldn't take the heat.
After a few more weeks the engine will be broken in, and suitable for Interstate runs.

Well, I fired it up, and ran it in at 2000 RPM per Isky's instructions, and per Isky's recommendation, with Brad Penn 30W break-in oil. Did the oil and filter change, and drove it to work for a week. Really impressed: 70 psi oil at startup, with 30 psi hot at idle. Wow. Tight. it's balanced to 6000 RPM. Smooth.

Then went four-wheeling up in the Pass for two days. Bad news. Lifters started the ticky-ticky-ticky thing, with accompanying loss of power. got home. Pulled off the valve covers and the rocker arms. Did the inspection. Guess what?? Any guesses??

Stamped three piece rocker arms (IN88S9) won't hold up to Schneider 300# springs at RPM and temperature. The ball stud gets hammered up into the arm, since it is only a press fit. Good for cruz'n around, but not for Lisa. Like I said, my girlfriend is DEMANDING.

Called up Gary at Rocker Arms Unlimited (Redding, Ca) Good news - "Send them back and I'll swap the arms for the cast IN88C9. Glad to know there is some one out there that understand IHC valve trains. Now the hard part: THE WAIT.
