i took my ride to the ref today, and he is asking me to instal an ecu from a 1995 truck with a manual tranz. this is to get around installing a smog pump.

ive been to several auto parts in town and they dont show any difference in part #s for either...wtf? does any one know if there is a specific ecm for a 95 with mt vs. at? i am currently running an ecm from a 87 .
i am also looking for a vss (vehicle speed sensor) that will adapt to my application???????

This is the only choice I see that "may" be able to swap in to your harness. And even at that you will need to try and find the wiring diagram for it to compare pin by pin.

For the VSS...have you read the VSS FAQ?

I have been thinking about this and it doesn't really make sense to me.
You need an egr and a charcoal canister plus vss and anything else from the donor vehicle.
But a smog pump I don't think was used with the TBI.
It may have been on your vehicle but not on th new motor and tranny.
    That's what is being inspected.
All devices on the motor and tranny needs to still need to be on it to pass.

IIRC the switching on of the air is quite differant than a non EFI motor and it only worked on deceleration... HTH

My concern is that you spend the time and money to swap haress and ECM just to be told next time that you need the charcoal canister or the EGR valve and solenoid..
    Then it's the factory aircleaner...

Are you sure that the ECM swap will be all it needs?
Keep in mind that it still has to pass the sniffer check.
If the programming is off then you still need to have a chip tuned for it.

I just want you to be careful how deep you get.

the ref was really specific in what he wanted me to do. which includes the following....

install 1995 ecu for 5.7 man trans.
    check/repair vss (install one)
ensure no codes are present apon retest
    install approved pcm/ecm/vcm

    replace non vented fuel cap
locate gross leak for evap test

install heat shroud for themostatic air cleaner

    set timing to factory specs

    locate timing spark connector

i already had the charcoal cannister in place, as well as the factory air cleaner, and egr system, so with any luck he will check off the items on the list and pass it. i forgot to mention that it did pass the emissions test, but im sure hes going to recheck that to?.?.?.?

as far as the harness is concerned, if the pin out list in your how to artice is accurate, other than some wire colors, the harness is the same. but dont quote me on that.......:sweatdrop:

i couldnt find a 16196396 ecm at the local wreckers, so i ordered it yesterday from the parts house, its a ac delco reman. the bummer is i didnt know it didnt come with the eprom! any links to a factory 2732A eprom? or should i have some one burn a chip( is that right?):helpsmilie:

I'm going to PnP this weekend, but I don't remember seeing any 94-95 pickups. There's a few 90-92.

Also people seemed to buy more auto's then manuals, from what I've seen

It also looks like the 95 ecm uses 2 connectors of the same size and the 7747 uses 1 large and 1 small.
So you will need to come up with the connectors to repin.

    I have the BDUY bin.
But I don't have the files needed to modify it....yet

Maybe not so rare. It's the manual tranny part that makes it tougher.

I see that when they sell prom chips they list them like so.
