Got my dowels today and worked the afternoon on the Scout. I got everything lined up and did some grinding on the edge of the trans bellhousing about a 1/4 inch and everything appears to fit great. I have to attach the torque converter bolts tomorrow and finish putting in and torquing bellhousing bolts. I do have to enlarge two holes so they match the GM threads so the bolts will start. Then should be good to go in.

You can see the area near the starter where I clearanced the bell housing by where i marked the starter with a sharpie. I will post several more pics of it incase someone else needs the info. I couldn't find anything when I searched and I called Advanced and they were great but they just said grind until it fits. My main problem was knowing what to grind they said i might have to grind the starter but i didn't end up having to grind it. That starter is a full size for a 79 350 c.i. Blazer but they said at Advance that a 96-2000 big block chevy starter fits better. Just some fYI anyway.

I also had to take off the alternator and th mock up headers they were in the way of me trying to mate up the engine and trans so I just removed them. I might test them when I get the engine installed or I may go with some of the new ram flo style manifolds or street rod shorty headers not sure yet. More to come

Well I got it in front of the Scout and off the trailer and swapped out a couple bolts yesterday then it rained. I worked for a little bit this morning and then when I was about to lift it rain clouds showed up and it went to pouring rain. So back on hold there is more coming but eventually I'll get to put it in there. I am going to work on some other stuff while i wait. more to come

Yes I do, I have my 20x30 garage and a pole barn shop I built that some of my vehicles are parked in and also a 18x26 carport but it is so hot I couldn't take it inside. But if I can get the engine set in i will move it in one of them now that it will get cooler in a few weeks. I do need a bigger space not parked full of vehicles and that's in the works too. LOL It has rained all day today off and on today so I went tool hunting this morning with the boy and we found some cool stuff we like to collect old vintage U.S. made tools and also use them in some cases. It is amazing what you can find that people did away with or don't know what they had and got rid of it. I scored some S-K , Bonnie, Owatonna (OTC), Blackhawk and other stuff this morning at a antique store. Kinda like treasure hunting! tomorrow sounds more promising I actually got to the point yesterday afternoon thinking I had 4 hours until rain that I was about to lift the engine up to set it and it started to thunder and cloud up so that was that. more to come

Dave, I do the same thing on tools! My best ones are Craftsman from the 40s that belonged to my Uncle Ralph, he was a nuclear scientist and one of the guys that didn't exist in the desert that built the big ones that were dropped on Japan. All of his are engraved with his SS # ! I have other good ones from antique stores too, my die and rethread kit, vise, hand wrenches, hammers, etc. Even my Skil saw is a Montgomery Ward branded one from the 50s.

That is cool J.J. those are the kind of tools a guy values the most. I have a few like that, you watch that saw though if it's that old it probably wouldn't be double insulated and could zap you. I would run a ground fault interrupter just incase that might keep it from ever jolting you.

Well after great resistance the engine is in the bay as of about noon. I am now lining it up and see where the mounts have to be and trying to install the rear crossmember I have it on a jack and pig penned up with timbers incase the jack slips so far so good just still fighting it not giving up though its closer. Heading back out for another round.
