I am on the way home with this 80 and one of the first things I noticed about it is the split rear bumper and hole in the frame.
I haven't gotten underneath it yet to look at anything.
Also has a spare tire carrier on the tailgate that I've never seen.

Any ideas on what could have been there?

Open tailgate, remove tire so we can see carrier when you get a chance.

Yep, that is the military bumperette setup and the hole is for the back end of the pintle hitch. I'm recording military Scout info so when you get the LST, I'd appreciate seeing it. I have several Scout 80 military so far. So far they are all '65s.

I really dig that tire! Too bad it's so worn....maybe has, oh, 3 miles on it?

@ BinderBookie. My Scout 80 is an early '63 built in Nov of '62. I will forward the LST It's military built in Chicago and sent to Rock Island Armory for the "commanding officer". Unfortunately the ticket seems incomplete, but it does show bumperettes and pintle hook and front tow hooks. I'll update soon.

I had a 62 military Scout with the tow pintle, and a “Good Driver” sticker on the glovebox.

Just noticed the "built in Chicago." All Scouts were built in Fort Wayne. Quite a few were assembled from FW-made parts in Canada and some from CKD in Australia. But I am also curious about any notations on the LST that would make you think it was built in Chicago.

just realized my lack of attention to detail before posting. . It’s for the Chicago district, I’m guessing since Rock Island is in IL...

Looks Like a pretty typical GI Scout as far as I can see from the first page. There should be two more pages and the second page will have the Army Registration Numbers listed. Take note of the build quantity- 518 in that contract. The "Commanding Officer" part is basically just addressed to the attention of the commanding officer... the details handled by suborinates. That is a typical format. Doesn't mean it was destined to be his rig... which would normally be a nicer staff car with his own driver.

Also, by the serial number, it's a very early 1963 Model Year Scout ('62 ended at FC58142). Plus the production date is likely in the '63 MY range as well, but that date would be on page 3 of the LST. BUT sometime commercial and govt contract vehicles are designated by the year the contract was written (e.g. the postal Scout , many of which were built in '68, even though they were '67 models and used a discontinued-in-'67 engine). But I don't know for sure in the case of the military jobs. It's never come up.

Thank you for the info! When I revived my LST it only came with this and one other page. The second page is missing and IHparts guys couldn’t locate it. Thank you again.

This has come up many times and when people have lost parts of their LST and WHS has been willing to go back and get the lost pages. I would ask IH Parts to make the request.

I called them and they were very helpful in going over info that I already had on the LST. Beyond that they only could say that what I had was what I got. Would you suggest asking them to go beyond that and request they go back and “recheck” for additional docs/ pages? Thanks again.

Well, then I suggest you send an email direct to WHS AskMcCormick WHS <askmccormick@wisconsinhistory.org>. Tell them the story, give them the VIN and ask them if they would double check that only one page is on the microfiche. You might mention that Jim Allen suggested to inquire.
