I am very glad to hear we have a new place to post. It is great to get a group of guys talking in the SOUTH. But it looks as though there are more in ARK. That is awesome but would love to hear from someone in MS. I am way over here at MIssissippi State University. I have had my Scout since I was 15, so that that would be around 20 years now. Greg
No man is an island...................... Except you Greg. I got your Visitor Message in my profile. Not much going on here, Im pretty much the only active IH owner/driver around here too. Theres one other guy in Mobile that doesnt do much with his Scout 800. Its a log term project as he has the time and cash, so it mainly sits and waits. I hear from him every once in a while. Theres Rob in Milton FL about 1.5 hours east, but I havent heard from him in a while. Im building a mild 345, Isky cam/lifters, BBC valve springs, to replace the stock 304 in my 68 1000C pickup. Its getting a fuel cell, Holley Red pump, 4 bbl intake and new Holley carb, aluminum wheels, and some other upgrades. It will retain the T19 4 speed I swapped in a couple years back to replace the factory "3 on the tree". My son and I are working on a 76 SII for him to drive as soon as he gets his license. Its donating the 345 for my pickup, and it will get a 196 that I saved from an 800. It has a cabtop, its 4x4, and has a T19 4 speed. It will be stock height, and run 235/75/15 tires on stock steel wheels with stock hubcaps. AFA why its hard to find IH owners locally, IH light trucks are a dying breed. There are fewer of them every time scrap prices go up. Most people wont look twice at buying one because "you cant find parts for them", or "it has too much rust". If you cant afford to do an immediate restore, then they require a LOT of maintenance to get them back on the road and keep them there. Most people view that as "too much work", or they just dont possess the skills required to do it. If someone does buy one down here, its more often than not used for a hunting camp. Used there until it rots apart from sitting outside unused for most of the year, year after year. Those are just some of the reasons why there arent many IH light trucks, and therefore owners, around anymore in the South. You helped put together a meet/greet a few years ago in MS, what happened to those guys? Mike
There's still a few of us around. I'm without a shop right now, or I'd be farther along than I am with the old girl. I did see one for sale in the Kiln over New Years. Good looking rig except for the AMC 6 cylinder..
There are a few of us in TN. We have a group of about 30 or so in Nashville and the surrounding area. Good to see you. I will let you know when we get another happening planned in the Nashville area. It may be a little out of your way, but we like to see everybody's rigs. Post some pics of your rig.
Its good to see some MS guys.... man I have been chompin at the bit to find some more IH guys in the Magnolia State. I have seen more guys around but they dont want to get in an online comunity. Bummer about them but I sure am glad there is a place for some good old MS IH mud slingers!
I think there is a good place to eat fish outside of Brandon. Off 25 if anyone is interested sometime. Maybe a local meet and greet. Or does anyone have any ideas. Greg
That's Cindy's Fish House on 471. Sounds good to me, if we can get anybody to show up. If not, the fish is still good!
Cindy's fish house is right off of Hwy 25: 2119 Highway 471 Brandon, MS 39047 If there are any interests we need to set a date. Greg
I'm in Vicksburg and have been on here for years, just been quiet. Mainly just reading for my 1310 4x4 restoration/rebuild. Did everything in a two car garage. Before and after pics are attached. Hope to have bumpers built this year. I may put the red light back on top.
