Ive seen this CL ad posted for quiet some time, was there such a version of the Jeep that was scout???

    77 Jeep Cherokee Scout 1500.00 OBO - $1500 (Albuquerque)
Limited edition, quadra-track, fully loaded, 401 motor, new four barrel carb, new transmission, new transfer case, high and low gear. Good for hunting, off road driving, or for restoring. There is very little rust and it just needs the timing chain reset. The 1977 Jeep Cherokee became a low-end version of the Wagoneer bigger tires, skid plates, 4:10 gear ratio was also added. If you have any questions or would like to see please give me a call at (505)907-0875

It looks like a 77 Jeep Cherokee Chief. He would be wrong about it being a low end of the wagoneer. They are mostly the same the main difference is wider fenders and wider axles for larger tires and better off road capabilities. As for calling it a scout well who knows.

Weren't the Cherokees also 2-doors? I don't remember them being low-end either. Just.... "Sportier". Maybe they were less expensive than the Waggies though.

And yeah, I only remember the Chief model. Easy enough to google and find out for sure. Just feeling too lazy at the moment.

Cherokees were the sporty version but were availble in 2 or 4 door. The fender flares were an option on 2 doors and came with bigger tires and wider axles. Pickups used the wider axles and flares pretty much all the way through production.

Wouldn't these type of questions be better served in the Martini lounge?

I just think a tech forum should be about IH tech and not just a place to post anything because it gets the most traffic here.

A Google Search of "Jeep Cherokee" would provide all the information that anyone could read in a year. Many different trims lines, models, etc. of the Wagoneer/Cherokee/Truck line over almost 30 years of the FSJ production.
