My Scout is currently at Gulf Coast Custom and Collision in Alvin. They are much more than your typical paint shop. They do restoration as well. They came highly recommended and the work of their's I have seen looks fantastic. I have yet to see the final product, but I do know that they have been meticulous in their work so far, going so far as to remove the side glass from the top and welding in new retention lip in several places. Hood, doors, fenders, top have all been removed during the process. It has been a slow process, but they are supposed to start painting this week. I have given them all new decals, lights, emblems, gaskets, body parts, etc. I will let you know how it turns out.

Me too, Fred. They have taken pictures, but I don't have them. If I get some, I will post a few.

Here it was a few days ago, prior to sanding and buffing. I'm very happy with everything they have done so far.

what did your Scout look like before you took it in? Was there a lot of body work to be done? Got any before pics? This one looks nice.

Thanks Bussy, It was in decent shape, but had lots of little dents, and some pin hole rust in the door, the hood, and maybe some other places. The top needed quite a bit of work as there was rust in the rain channel and around the side glass. Rear hatch and tailgate were replaced with better ones. The new hatch is fiberglass, so it needed some modification to fit the hardware. Look at the link in my sig about rust removal and you will get an idea of its original condition.

Any preferred powdercoaters? I have gotten a couple of estimate around Houston but they seem high.

I use Precision Powder Coating in Spring. I've always received nice finished items and cost is reasonable - $69 per wheel I think I paid to have my original rims done. http://www.precisionpowder.net/

I've used Brian at Alkote Inc numerous times & will again if I need anything coated. His turnaround time is usually a few days.

I just let 4 Wheel Parts rebuild my front axle and install new gears. I thought they took good care of me and would use them again. This is the one by the Astrodome.

She was at Off Road Unlimited until Tom went crazy and fired everyone. I really miss that place. They were my go to shop when I messed something up. They gave advice, loaned me tools, and fixed things when I wasn't able to repair something. I still don't know the cause of Tom's death.

Thanks for the input ya'll. Is there an engine rebuild place any of ya'll would recommend? I did not see anything listed and would love to get mine rebuilt. Its the 4 cylinder 152 that's in it now. Thanks very much!
