Hello All in SSII land a place I dont come by to much. I been having my 1976 Scout since 1986, and I love the old girl. I am thinking about getting a 1977 SSII. It is a rust bucket but I have most of the part that are hard to find in the sale of the Scout. Can anyone here explain what are the differences between them other then color.

It’s basically a stock Scout II - less doors and hard top. Just shy of 4000 were built from77-79. The majority are 77’s.
Door inserts instead of hard doors
Vin plate on passengers side kick plate
Pretty bare bones/ no AC / no flooring/
Dash would have snap on vent covers over the defrost area.
Passenger seat, rear bench, and center console were all optional.
Convertible top and it’s doors were optional
    Roll bar/show bar was standard.
All motors except diesels were optional.
Could have decals or not. Fender flares or not. All optional.
I am sure there is more I am missing, others will chime in, I am sure. If you purchase/save it. Please register it on my site superscoutregistry.com

    Good luck!

Front bucket seats did not tilt,at least in 77 with the older style buckets.

The low back buckets in my 79' did but somehow I don't know if they were a stock option for low back buckets or not.

What you are describing was their sales marketing strategy. They created several models a dealer could buy based on options.
