I just bought a 1970 800 in great condition but I noticed the choke was weird. It was pulled all the way out and in order to use it it was a matter of pulling against it at full extension. After looking at it, the bracket that connects the choke cable to the engine/carburetor is missing. The PO used a zip tie to attach the cable to a hose so there is no way to adjust it and it slips when you pull the choke cable..
I want to buy a new bracket that connects and holds the cable to the engine but I have no idea what it is called or what it looks like. Searching for parts is futile until I know what I'm looking for. Help?

IMG_20170411_123347.jpg probably doesn't help that my choke was not hooked up in that pic but that's my 68 4cyl 1904 setup

This is what it looks like now. You can see where they zip tied the choke cable on to the hose. [IMG]

Which engine/carburetor do you have? Pictures of what's present would help.
On my 1971 800B with 304 and Holley 2300, the cable ends at a bracket (and associated linkage) which is part of/listed with the carburetor in the parts book.

Looks like that carby had an electrical choke at some point ,then all the important bits got stripped off
and the choke cable was run direct :1eye:

The OP (Karen) hasn't posted a picture yet; the ones in Post #2 & 5 are from other members.

Ok. Here we go. Here are the pics of the current setup the PO did to the choke cable. I thought it needed the bracket but it is possible this was done for some other reason that I do not understand. All ideas welcome and appreciated.

The problem is that the choke pull is all the way out and in order to get it to crank I have to yank on the already extended choke pull in the cab. There is not any room for adjustment and it will not go in any further.

That has to be the worst jurry rig I've seen in a while. Kevin was right a few posts back... that carb used to have an automatic choke. I'm assuming the po stripped those components off when swapping that carb on. If I were you I would be looking for a new/correct carburetor.

All your chock is doing is moving the chock plate, and its missing a lot of parts. You will never get it to work without replacing some pieces.
