I'm compiling a list of VINs for a FAQ to help people identify the year of their "baby" Scout (1961-1971) if it's unknown. I have a pretty good list for every year except 1967 and 1968.
Actually, I just need the "serial number" which is the last 7 characters of the VIN that starts with a "G".

Please send me your serial number and the manufacture year of your Scout as stated on your data plate or Line Set Ticket.

Jim Allen has created a thread for the same information for Scout IIs (1971-1980). The title is
Scout II VINs/LSTs Wanted. Please use this thread for your Scout II questions.

Update: The list of Scout 80/800 serial numbers can be seen in the Resources section. Scroll down the list of Knowledge Base (KB) articles. Currently, the list is on the second page. Last updated in June 2015.
Or click on this link: Scout 80/800 Serial Number List

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

Thanks for all the numbers I have received so far.
As I expected, there are some that are "out of sequence" with relation to others for a known year of production. For instance, a serial number that falls in the production range of Nov '63 to Nov '64 belongs to a "1965" Model 80. As we know, the year on the title is based on when the Scout was sold and registered rather than when it was actually built. That accounts for these discrepancies.
It would be helpful if the manufacture date (from the data plate or line set ticket) is included with your VIN.

Thanks again and keep 'em coming!

That would be great! I don't have any mfg dates for the two 68 numbers I have so far.

This may sound Dumb, but I am looking at my Texas title for a 64 Scout 80 and the VIN number listed on this is:

    SCOUT4X4FC81785A

I've never seen one listed that began with SCOUT4X4 before.

I think the VIN Plate on the Scout just reads:

    FC81785A

I assume you don't want VINs unless we are sure of the date, correct? I forgot I have the VIN of the Scout I sold last summer...

    Wes,
I'd prefer to have the mfg date or final inspection date (or even a shipped date) but I'll accept any VIN just to provide numbers for my database.
Ultimately, what I'd like to have is at least one VIN example from every month of every year of Scout 80/800/800A/800B production.

Neither build date nor ship date boxes had a date on my LST. However, the last four digits in the DISTRICT box of my LST are "12/14". Another BB member and I discussed this a year or so ago. He was of the opinion, after doing a similar analysis using other 800 LST's that this date could be the order date when the dealership placed the order, and based on his analysis this date appeared to precede the build date by an avg of 6 weeks. So, best guess is mine had an order date of 12/14/65, with a final inspection in Jan or Feb of 1966.

That was me and so far, and several LSTs later, the theory still holds water.

    Thanks for the info, guys!
Scott's VIN falls very early in the 800 production series which began around Nov 1965.
