It's looks like a real SSII with aftermarket decals. Call the Wisconsin Historical Society at 608-264-6535 with your VIN and order your Line Setting Ticket and then you'll know how it was equipped from the factory.

Please post your VIN and maybe somebody here will have some information on it.

There must have been a company that installed the Sidewinder decals. The logo is the same.

Thanks. Does the paint look original? That's an odd color.

It's been paint at least once, the person didn't do a great job taping off the trim. But when I removed the door inserts the paint was the under side was same color.

Smolinski clued me in to your request and I'm looking in to it. As you have seen, there were a number of them and of different styles.

I am not sure if the sidewinder for scouts were different than their normal sidewinder, but I've got one and a buddy of mine has his mounted to the front of his scout 80. I thought I could put it on my scout ii but since I can't, might be open to selling it

I've got it up and running last summer. Had to replace must of fuel system and went through the ignition system. Put a set of new tires on. I was wondering about the decals because my wife is pushing me to paint the scout, she refuses to ride in it this color. She does like the scouts that are done up though.

Jacob - I think your SSII is very unique. Jim (Binder Bookie) is a historian and he should be able to find out some information on it. It looks like a special order color which is fairly unique on an SSII. Hopefully the Line Setting Ticket will provide some interesting information. Stay tuned.

I checked out the Scout SSII and see nothing on the LST to answer anything regarding the Sidewinder question. It was built as an SSII on June 15, 1977. It was a Gold Star model (7-SCSS-44-112), which was the Brush Buster Package in Buckskin (4408YL). The standard package for the Brush Buster was the 304V8 (with dual exhaust), T427 4-speed w/HD clutch, RA28 rear axle (with limited slip) and 3.54 gears, locking hubs, HD springs, power steering, rear bumper, front tow hooks, H78 M/S tires and 2 bucket seats. It has all of that, though the RA28 notation was crossed off and was substituted with a RA18 open diff. Added items are the Off-Road Tire and Wheel Package (10-15 Goodyear Tracker RWL on white 15x8 spokers), the rubber fender lip extensions and a rear seat.

The most interesting part of this as it relates to the Sidewinder is that this Scout was shipped to the Kansas City Factory Owned IH dealer, which may be responsible for the Sidewinder treatment. Does anyone know where the other Sidewinders were sourced?

    Hi Jim,

Thank you for researching the sidewinder. The "Factory Owned Dealer" thing is interesting. I hope we can find some more sidewinders to look at.
