Does anyone have a date in 1978 when they started installing the 33T's in the Scout II? I know there was an overlap of the non turbo and turbo 33's just curious what month the turbo's started. Thanks!

I thought the turbo'd engine was only 1980.

referencing page 163 of the Scout Encyclopedia, this page states that IH announced the Nissan turbo diesel in July 1979 and announced full implementation in October 1979.

The 1st turbo diesel S2 was built on 8 August 1979 and it was marked as the 'pilot model', followed by the next sequenced VIN which was marked 'Master Line'.

Based on that, I'm in agreement with Joe S. on the 1980 model year only.

OP, assuming you don't already have one, the Scout Encyclopedia is a great Christmas present for yourself and is available via most of the Light Line dealers, and also thru Amazon.

I don't mean any personal disrespect, heck, I have no memory either, I was in 7th grade when all that stuff was going on, with visions of Trans Am dancing in my head (to be seasonally correct). :)

However, If I was a betting man, I would put down money that the timeline for the Nissan turbo diesel engine presented in 'the Scout Encyclopedia" is spot on, and Diesel World web site is inaccurate, at least for that particular detail.

Maybe we can get Binderbookie to chime in, I believe the article I submitted a section of had Mr. Allen's name on it. The reason I started this thread is because Thanksgiving day I bought a 2 owner 1978 with a 33T that is supposed to be original. Still waiting to hear back on getting a copy of the line ticket because the glove box sticker is unreadable.

there could always be a correction, but just in case you aren't aware, the Scout Encyclopedia that I'm quoting in post #4 is his book.

I had to double check. I have a copy of the test of the '80 Scout from the April, '80 Four Wheeler. It says it's the first year for the 33T. YMMV.
