a freind of mine has a 1970 International scout we honestly do not know what motor is in it, we suspect it is a 1971 304ci motor but thats just what we suspect is there any easy way for us to identify if it is in fact a 304 international? and if it turns out that it is a 304 what is its oil capacity? the engine in it now has a distributor up front with a motorcraft 2 barrel carb....any ideas? thnx

If You look above your fuel pump there will be a flat smooth space right above it scrape off the grease and dirt and it wil say v-304 v-345 or v-392,all IH V8 distributors are in the front. and a motocraft carburetor is compatable with IH intake manifolds.

The number is not above the fuel pump , Well kinda :1eye: but it is stamped in the block below the head to the left of the fuel pump on the SV8 engines

Hey guys a client just brought me a 70 maybe it's a 71 International pickup with a nice red V8 in it and the portion where you say the engine number is located is simply a flat machined surface even after my wire wheel there has never been anything stamped there so can you give me another idea on how to identify this motor?

the dipstick tube bracket has 2 holes , Take note of which hole the bolt is in on your engine
Lower deck engines 266/304 will have bolt in lower hole of bracket
Taller deck engines 345/392 will have bolt in upper hole of bracket
Sometimes the cylinder heads have raised numbers cast in them 304/345 etc
There is also an intake manifold measurement to distinguish 266-304/ 345-392
I don't remember the particulars though.
Maybe someone with more info can pin it down further

What about the part number of the I take manifold. I don't recall where it's cast, but I know I saw one, and that will narrow it down. Also,if it has a 4bbl, then it's either a 392 or 345.

Thank you Kevin I'm pretty sure this is the original 304 but I'm going to do a stroke test tomorrow and I will check the location of that dipstick mount
