      Yeah, thats the state of affairs with a 304 or a 345.
      There are a couple threads one how to accomplish something different with a regular chevy stand. Last time I had to do it I think I just bolted a wider plate to the face of the engine stand. There are some other folks on here with creative solutions as well. Just remember you want they rotation axis to close to the center of gravity of the motor so that you can still turn it over in the stand.

      kirk, you there? This is Chuck. Man, I just tried mounting a 304 on my engine stand and the freakin mounting bracket is just a little too short to mount to all 4 points. Have you had this problem? Only used this stand for Chevy motors...didnt know I would ever need anything different
