Yes. I watched lots of chevy videos (because that is what is out there). They all said it was difficult. I spent probably a half hour under the truck withy finger in the hole while I manually turned the harmonic balancer. No luck.
Finally I eyeballed the hole and had my son click the ignition. I had an "Oh that's what I'm looking at!" Moment. After that it was one of the easiest things I've done on the truck

Up next first ever tune up with points. Then replace the burned out exhaust donut. I'm tired of sounding like a hot rod.

Can you describe how you are trying to adjust the accelerator pump? Is the carb the original style carb or a larger cfm 2300?

I'm currently waiting to leave same day surgery from a hernia op. I wad hoping to put the new fuel line and mechanical fuel pump on next weekend but the Surgeon and wife nixed that. Fire wood season is coming so I need it running.

For the dashpot, try driving without it for a while and determine if it makes any difference. Might need to adjust the idle speed and idle fuel mix. I adjust the idle speed to about 650 rpm for the 4 sp stick trans.

When replacing the fuel pump, there are 2 different body lengths. The pumps will look similar but with the 'dogbone' mounts, you will need the 'longer' style. Give that operation time to heal or you will find yourself back in the hospital.
