So....driving home Monday after watching one tornado cross I-40, I hit the mother of all water puddles between barriers in a construction zone. Not sure if it was "cat-like reflexes" or just pure wild azz luck, but managed not to hit anything (probably woulda overcorrected with power steering!).
Then get to the right turn into my driveway, but she don't wanna turn.....WOW! Manage to muscle her into the carport, get out to look under the front, and notice a curious sight. Both front wheels pointed in opposite directions!
Turns out, one of the bolts that fasten the tie-rod bracket to the hub on the passenger side had broken (probably in the panic steering!).
So this evening I jacked her up, yanked the wheel/hub, and replaced the broken bolt and the bent remaining bolt, and bada-bing! she steers gooder than new!!
Now the really crappy part is that the radiator split a seam exactly where it had 5-6 months ago! The old school dude that repaired it told me there wasn't much he could do if it popped again. Looks like I'm on the hunt for a replacement radiator, or possibly get mine re-cored.

Glad that neither you nor your ride were seriously hurt. Wish I could help with the radiator.

well, at least you weren't hurt. I've seen rigs that were totalled when that happened and the truck went belly-up after a wild ride.
On your radiator, are they all that different from the 69-73 Travelall's or any of the scouts?

I believe the rad from a 69-75 truck will not work.....I'll wander out and peek at my T-all this weekend to verify, but pretty sure it won't be swap-able!
Probably going to have a local radiator shop re-core mine using the original tanks and brackets, but a thicker core this time for better capacity and better cooling this summer.
Who knows, I have had my eye on a 67 or older pickup near here that I might be able to acquire for free. I can just hear my wife squawk now when I drag another IH home.

Well.....404 bucks later and the old blue bomb is back on the road! Had to have the radiator re-cored, and it seems the core was a bit pricey!!! Imagine that.
So now after the brake re-build and the rad re-core and various other stuff, the total invested in keeping her running has exceeded the initial cost!!!
Oh well!

Ok Matt....I'll have her ready for ya......just have a check for me!!!! lol
I'm starting to do several rounds of cooling system flushes, the rad shop said both times they took my rad apart, the bottom tank was full of muck. Just used a flush from BG, but wasn't really impressed with it. I used the Prestone twice in the past, and LOADS of crud came out so I'm going to go with it again next.
Next I need to address the voltage fluctuation problem at night. Going to go make sure the volg reg is good and grounded, check and clean the bulkhead plugs, and various other things tomorrow.
Actually, I used to spend loads of time in Ar. at Camp Robinson teaching soldiers to do a bit of shooting. Spent MANY nights in the local establishments in downtown Littlerock (Flying Saucer, Fox and Hound, Underground).
