I bought a Triple Diamond marked IH mechanical tachometer off ebay. Anybody know how these are connected to the drive train? Considering removing the mechanicals and replace them with modern electronics.

Thanks

Does it look like this one http://www.oldihc.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=754&cat=500&page=1 ?
This one is on my KB-7 truck. They are cable drivin off of the distributor. Built right into the base of the dissy.
guess I don't spend enough time wathcing E-Bay.:whistling:

Depends on your intended use. If the truck has a V8, there are many distributors out there with the mechanical drive connection that drop in.
Any truck salvage yard with Loadstars will have one. The 6 cylinder overhead valve motors also had distributors with mechanical drives but hey are a little harder to find.

I have a couple of 60's electric tachs I'd be happy to swap for that mechanical unit!

Yes that's the one. I have a KB-3 Metro with a GRD 214 with a Delco Remy 1110095 distributor. What engine is in your KB-7? I just looked at my distrib. I didn't see and rotating "port" for a cable. Where exactly does it plug into the distrib.? The base of the disassembly...? It may not be meant for the GRD.

Thanks

Takes a special distributor. My KB 7 has a blue diamond 269 in it.
The dissy for these are completly different than the stock one and is special to the tack drive application. I've never seen one on a Green Diamond. Don't know how hard it would be to convert one from another application.

I don't know about mechanical tachs on Green Diamond engines either. Try Paul Barry at 'Willys America' in Cazadero, CA The Willys flathead was nearly identical to the IH Green Diamond - they were both derived from the same motor in the thirties.
