Ok, Aprils Meeting will be held at Bob's, :) 3401 McCall Lane (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&formtype=address&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=&cat=&address=3401+mccall+lane&city=austin&state=tx&zipcode=) at 9:00 A.M.! If you have a project you would like some help with, or if you would like to help someone with a project, this will be a good time for it! I am thinking about pulling my transmission, 727, and replacing rear freeze plugs on the 304. Thats a big project, still debating on how to go about this, definately need help though!

Any one got any other projects in mind?

Anyhow, God and Army willing, I'll finally make it to one.

I am just not having very good luck making it to these meetings. I will be wheeling in Katemcy that weekend with a Bronco club. Let me know if anyone in Austin wants to get together anytime before that.

Is this the same mechanic that "rebuilt" your transmission?

HOPEFULLY, will be able to push or pull the '73 over to Bob's and at least pull the clutch out. Will have a dollar or 2 by then to do it, but I'm not sure of the size of the clutch that's in it.

Is there a way or an inspection port to look in and find out which set-up I've got??? I've read of different clutches for the Scout and some extra-heavy duty springs and such, which way should I go with them???

Had a blast Saturday with everyone in New Braunfels!!!

Kevin,
Most v - 8 scout came with an 11" clutch. If you are planning on chaning it you should get clutch pressureplate, pilot bearing, throwout bearing. another flywheel that has been turned already would be great so you don't have to wait. I have extrs laying around for cores if oyu need them

Thanks Bob!!!

Jason has talked to the guys out at Scout Madness, and they quoted him a price of $185 for rebuild using our cores. They give about a 10-day turnaround just depending on how busy they are. Has anyone in the club dealt with these gentlemen before??

Might have a friend that has a wrecker to get it over to Bob's, so I'm not real worried about that at this point.

I have talked to Mark at Scout madness a couple times. And ordered a few things. He is a stand up guy and his prices are reasonable.

For the $185 is that the clutch/pressureplate or just the clutch? And are you getting the flywheel resurfaced?

Cheers!

Dealt with Mark a few times, good guy, some of his prices are a little high, but I always receive what I ask for and everytime, so far, he has gotten my items shipped out the same day, receive three days later. I have even heard of him flying parts to people so that he can log some flight hours. :)

Kevin, when I had my engine rebuilt last year we were able to find a new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bering and pilot bering at Service Parts and Machine in San Antonio. They are located at 731 Probandt and their phone number is 210/226-8363. I am sure they can also resurface your flywheel. One thing I should mention, the old clutch didn't match up with the one specified in the parts book. I don't know what the difference was but what finally happened is the old clutch was taken to Service and they matched it. I can't give you any help on the price. I know I got a good deal through my brother-in-law(long story) but if you want a new instead of a rebuilt you might check into this option. Bill

Wow! I'll be in town for this one! I'll bring my extras for people. I have a small stock of parts to donate to the team including a plastic gas tank.

See you there.

I really want to make up to Bob's that weekend....if all goes well, between now and then. Allen...if youre not already full...a ride up there would be great...this way my wife can keep the family tank. I'll touch base with you a couple of days before.

I actually have a good excuse for missing this meet, unlike my usual "work" excuse. I'll be in Germany visiting my #1 son the soldier and his family. Hope everyone has a great time, I know I will. :)

Mike,
Your son will fit right in. He and I are probably on the same mental level. Heck, he's probably a little smarter :D Just bring him. It's never too early to get 'em started.

I think I'm finally going to get to come to a meeting. I'm planning on coming to Bob's. 9am is a little early for me on a Saturday morning :) , but I will do my best to get there as early as possible.
I'll be bringing my membership application. I'll also be in my Scout as long as it gets out of the shop by then. It should be ready.
I'm excited! I'll see you then!

I forgot to mention in my first post, but I am looking for a passender side mirror for my 73 Scout II. I'm really just coming to the meeting to meet everyone and hang out, but if I could find a mirror that would be great too.

:) Looking forward to the meeting as well. Bob will have mirrors, hopefully you will find a match.

Bob, or anyone else, really, do you have the shift lever on the side of the tranny (727) for a cable shifter? I need one for my 64 because the one on it is for a column shift. Do you know what I'm talking about? It's the best I can explain it.

Your 60's is a truck right. I have a few scout II florr shifter s if you need one.

I should be there. Maybe even with an IH.

Well, the Schneider cam guys strike again. They have a hard time getting the blanks for IH's. Hopefully, the blank will be with them on Monday, then the cam to my mechanic by the end of the week? My truck won't be ready, but I will be there later to learn/help with other's projects. Impatience runs deep in my family. I am frothing at the bit! :D

Hay guys keep the next one posted, I a in the middle of 7/12s right now but would love to come check it out and meet some of ya'll.

jtyler
04-14-2007, 10:13 AM
Yeah. I just need a floor shifter, but also the shift lever off the side of the tranny. The 727 I have right now was originally out of a 70's 1 ton so it was column shift, and the lever is different than the one for a cable shifter.

By the way, fingers crossed I might be able to get the pickup down here to Texas by September.

Looks like I wont be making this one. :( My wife made me an offer I can't refuse. She is taking the boy with her to Dallas. So I will be all alone this weekend. So I will be able to finish tiling the floor in my bathroom. Just can't pass it up. Im getting real tired of tile work.
