Are inner panels (for a hard top) worth anything? in other words if I put an ad up, can I expect them to be grabbed, or are they one of those "couldn't give them away" items?

I think I found a guy who wants my hard top, but sans inserts. and since I don't have space for the inserts, it's sell or toss.

I just don't think I can sell them either. I keep getting people who say they want to buy stuff I have listed over in classifieds, then a few days later change their minds. it's irritating. Whatever happened to "integerty" and "honesty"? if I commit, I Do my best to follow through, and if unable, I'll at least be upfront as to why.

Sorry, but this has been on my nerves for a while now.

Joe,
First, my thoughts are that those inner plastics are worth something. I just bought a set for my wife's Traveler for $80.00 from Mr D. Why are they worth something? Because age and sun has made those plastics infuriatingly brittle. Mess with them (taking off your top repeatedly, installing a roll bar, etc), and they crack. Two, I do not know of an aftermarket source that is reproducing them (yet). So you have supply and demand working for you.

Unfortuneately, I don't think I'm going t be able to settle your nerves. One thing I have noticed about this community is that everyone is looking for a deal. We are cheap. There I said it. We want our stuff at bargain basement prices if not for free. Three vehicles ago, I would have paid you top dollar for anything you had. But, now, like most of us, working on multiple restoration projects, and knowing that I "might" be able to find a "whole vehicle" out there for a couple Benjamins, you are going to encounter alot of people just browsing.

My advice, stick to your guns. You know what stuff is worth. You've made calls to Super Scout Specialists, Mr. Scout, Bisio Motors, etc.. If somebody just has to have that particular something, it has a relatively set value. They will pay it, as I have, in the effort to move forward on a project. Be patient.

Oh, and if you are giving away free SD33 Diesel Engines, give me a call. :D

All the best to you, Joe.

That doesn't bother me. What bothers me is with the hard top, for instance, I've had since moving here, over 6 people say they want to buy it, agree on price & delivery cost, and say they've sent out a check. When I e-mail them a week later saying i haven't gotten the check yet, they say they changed their minds and don't want to buy it anymore! but they can't bother to inform me so I can put it back on the market

I have listed stuff for free on here, and it has not sold.

It's a problem of where to keep all the stuff.

All the best to you, Joe.

One thing you could do is put your hardtop on ebay. At least that way, it is a legally binding contract and you have some recourse (technically them saying they will buy it is binding as well, but a lot tougher to enforce). Ebay provides options when people win the auction and then don't pony up. Plus, you can check buyers ratings and invalidate their bid if they have a negative rating. HTH, Kevin.

I saw a set of inner panels on Ebay a couple of weeks ago. I was tempted to bid on them as I would like a set of my own. The only real problem with the guy was that he wanted something like 15 to 20 bucks for "handling" and you had to arrange your own shipping. That may be a big part of why he only got one bid on them....15$

unliterate, where are you located? I have an extra set of panels I would be willing to part with. The do have a minor piece chipped out, I believe just on the passenger side, that chipped off when I tried to put them in with my rollbar. I'm not too keen on shipping them, you anywhere near colorado? Kevin.

The big problem with the inserts are that they're too big to send by ups, so that drives up the cost

Size makes them difficult to ship, I've got a couple extra sets myself, just lying in the rafters of my garage,
someday I'll inventory all my extra parts, keep what I want & put the rest up for sale!!

i know I've got enough parts to build a complete Scout II, (-) the actual tub, & still have a hefty pile of parts left over!!
