A science project huh? Ive been there before. Matter of fact I went down to the shop I'm building the other day and I have one of my trucks in there. The floor isn't poured yet and a briar had grown up through the headers and came out the cowl induction hood to the windshield! had to do some pruinning.

I think I am working on everything but the Scout. i started cleaning the shop to try and determine what I have. That is out of hand. I now have a tractor apart waiting on parts.
Maybe I can get back on track soon.

I thought they were the same as the SII I just didn't have time to test it out with a set off my SII before I left. I'll pick up a set and have them ready for when I get home!:punk:

I bought a poly tank for my SII few months ago. Pretty nice unit. Haven't installed it yet as the SII project it on hold for now.

Here is the most recent picture I have. I need to take a few of the rear bumper now that its on. I am waiting until I get the bracing in for it so I don't start any "a rear bumper needs this" arguments. http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90530&page=8

Sounds like you've got you're hands full. I highly recommend speed bleeders to you if you're do much brake work. I bought a set and am very pleased.

Hey guys,

I've been posting on the main Binder page about my build. (and i've been posting on just-international.org also). I believe this would be my first post on mid-south binders....can't remember. Anyways, I've finally bought my first Scout. Its a 1979 Scout II. Its got a 304, factory A/C and rust. I plan on using it as a daily driver. I live in Mountain Home, AR. I'm about 3.5 hours north of Little Rock. (i am near the Missouri border)

The plains for the Scout II:
1. take it down to the frame.
2. replace rusted out sheet metal on the tub.
3. pressure wash the frame.
4. considering POR 15 on the frame. (let me know what you guys think)
5. new brakes all the way around. (hoses, wheel cylinders, calipers)
6. considering replacing metal brake lines with new. (let me know what you guys think)
7. New quarter panels- SuperScouts.com has them, shipping is going to kill me!
8. New wiring harness with the new ATO type fuse box.
9. New carburator-looking at the Motorcraft 2100.
10. New exhaust

I'm sure this list is not complete. I plain on working on the scout little by little as I get the money to work on it. I hope I can meet some of you guys sometime. And I appriciate all your help. Here are some pics:

I would have the frame powder coated. Little Rock Powder Coating is pretty cheap and powder coat is really strong. They will sandblast and powdercoat the frame. Was cheap last time I talked to them like $200 bucks. Might be some one local to your that can do it was well. It will look great and last a long time.

I would also look at running a TBI setup. I am installing one on my travelette when I get home. Should be into it for $1000 bucks but thats me not doing anything just buying parts on line. This could be done for as little as $500 bucks or less if you find a complete donor. Well worth it for better drivablity.

There's a local powder coating company here in town. I'll check into it. And for the TBI setup, I need to do somemore research on this. Again, finances are an issue. I want to do a good job, but I don't want the Scout sitting in my garage forever. I just can't wait to drive it.

Thanks for your advice.

I have to admit, that my next Scout coming home, had weeds growing around it for 10 years. It was last licensed in OH, in 2002. While cancer is taking its toll on the body, from what I know the engine ran like a top(diesel). It is a science experiment of how many furry woodland creatures were either in it, under it, or even on it. The pictures I have seen of it, show some moss(or green growth) on the lower body. One of the Midas armrests has been chewed on, and at least one heater hose has a hole chewed in it. All the parts are there, but it was parked due to the pressure plate breaking a tab/tooth. I'm excited and sad, as I am trading off one of my 1110 T'alls for it. However, in keeping with the theme here, I did bring home this beast, which will eat up time as well this winter('73 1210 Travelette 4x4 727, 345):

Bought a B&M shifter for the 700R4. Installed a set of BFG 35's and Mickey Thompson Wheels. I built this racing cage last week and I think I like it. I am going to add the overhead X's to the Scout"s cage.

JustinBuy a cheap carb and get it running and drive it. Save you money start buying parts for the TBI swap as needed then one day you can install it. You don't have to do it right away. Its an easy swap. :hammer:

Search in the injection forum for my thread "Gathering Parts" It lists what I have paid for everything needed. I am still adding parts to the list. I have Bill Hamilton fuel injection making the harness for me.

Not really working on the Scout, but last Monday (my day off) I put some fresh gas in and went for a drive. First time on the street the ride felt strange so I stopped and found that the left rear wheel was loose. I eased back to the house and tightened and checked everything and the next ride was less unsettling. The 392 ran great with the fresh gas and I had forgotten how that thing will pull. I am now more itchy to get my front axle swapped.
I intend to get new lug nuts and loctite them before anymore driving. This is the second time I have found a loose wheel after just driving a little in the yard.

I wouldn't locktite them. You can get new nuts and torque them to spec then use toque stripe. It's placed in a line from the nut to stud to tell if the nuts has backed off or someone has removed it. It allows for a quick glance at the wheel to insure everything's tight. Napa should have some.

Green-80

Never heard of torque stripe. Is it just a marker?
I had a car years ago that the chrome lugs nuts would not stay tight without a bit of blue Loctite. I had the left front wheel come off twice at slow speeds before I used the Loctite. If I can't stop this before the Scout is ready for a longer trip I may change to steel wheels. Right now it has these. This picture was taken with the old tires and before a good cleaning.

Ahh OK yeah just add a little locktite and it should be OK. I bet the studs are worn out. YOu can replace those as well as the nuts and it should be fine.

Josey

Just drill a hole crosswise thru the nuts then safety wire the set. :punk:

Or you could get two lock lug nut sets and add two to each wheel that way they can't be tampered with!:hammer:
