I've been thinking about gauges for the dash. Here is a pic of where I'm at. A 5" speedo in the middle and a 3-3/8 on either side. One a tach and the other a 4 in 1. So far so good. Autometer makes just what I want. But then I start to get into the details and it all blows up on me.
My first issue is I don't want an 8k or 10k tach. I would like a 6k or even a 4k tach because my cruiser is never gonna see north of about 3k rpm. My second issue is I HATE friggin 2-digit tachometers. I want a 1-digit tach so that it is butt-simple for my little brain to look down at the dash and not confuse my speed with my engine rpm. Wanting a 6k rpm tach rules out Autometer. But the brands that do offer a 6k tach (like VDO) don't have the 4 in 1's. And apparently I am weird in my quest for a single digit tach because again not many vendors make these and those that do - don't seem to have the 4 in 1 or they don't have the larger sizes. Does anybody have any suggestions?

I drove her to Oregon and back this past week and finally had a chance to check gas milage. My best was Fresno to Redding where I did 19.2 mpg at about 65 average (due to lots of construction zones). Even my first tank was over 17 and that was with 2 days of commute and then LA and over the Tejon pass.
I stopped in Redding to check out some different wheels and ended up buying them. They are still Mustang lug pattern and using my wheel adapters to compensate for the deeper back spacing. But their net offset is now more like the stock GM wheels so the steering is better and I like the Cragar style look.

This past weekend I added a front bumper to the truck. I did a mockup with the GMC bumper that came with the Z71 X cab. I liked what it did enough to go buy the same bumper but without trim at a wrecking yard. The two bumpers were harvested to make the one I needed. Here are some progress shots.

And many hours later.. the almost finished product! I will be extending the ends of the corners so that they line up with the wheel opening in the fenders. And the finish welding. And the strip off of the old chrome. And the new chrome. Details, details, details.
But I have to say I like the result. This bumper has a simplistic shape which might have come out of the IH assy line in the late 60's. But it also has a slightly modern look so it does a good job of blurring the lines between new and old.

That bumper looks right at home, may have to rob that idea at some point.

A couple of small items.
Thanks to Jeff here on Binder Planet forum I was able to get a glass lens for my backup light and put the lenses and rings back on after 2 years. Then I figured out how to adapt the sun visors out of the GM into the truck. I had to cut and paste the mounting bosses because the IH cab ceiling is a little narrower and more rounded than the GM cab. As usual my welds are ugly but functional.

I extended the ends of the bumper tips so they would blend with the line of the wheel opening better. I also welded up 6 holes that were in the bumper. Then I ran out of flapper wheels.
