Just wanted to share some great news! but first I have to tell you a story so get some popcorn and a soda....about 6 years ago I came across a guy who had a 75 scout II that he was looking to restore, at the time I was about 18 and had my scout for about a year, anywhoo, I asked him how the restore was going and he said that it never started, that he decieded to buy a bug instead So I told him I wanted the scout. I went to his home and gave him 350.00 for this scout with no rust, 345, TF tranny. good deal. trailered it to the shop put some gas dwon the carb and it roared to life. well anyways, he had these seats, and they did not come with the scout, because he was going to put them in the bug, but said for an extra 150.00 he would throw them in, so I passed. now fast forward 6 years to present day. I am now married and my wife HATES the caddy seats that I have put in. they are leather, and in the central valley with no A/C...well you can see why. So I looked around for some seats that would work, and never found any. one day though, I went back to my hometown (about 6 months ago) and told the owner of the little gas station there that I was looking for Duane, because I thought that maybe he still had those seats. I never heard back. until monday!!!! he calls and askes if I want the seats. I said YEP! so I took a little drive to his new home and took a look at these seats. they are in EXCELLENT SHAPE! not one tear, really nice cloth, no stains, they feel brand new. he never put them in the bug, so for about the last 18 years they have not been installed in the scout. (the scout that I bought had not ran in about 12 years prior to me buying it.) he turns one of the seats over and says as you can see there is some rust on the bases. I took a look, and its just surface rust. and just barley noticable. but I didnt let him know that, I told him I'd give him 50 bucks for them...he said SOLD I scored on some seats and bases for 50.00!!!! in PEFRECT shape!!! needless to say I was happy as a clam. but now at the end of the story I have a question, how can I tell if these are low back or high back? they look medium back to me.

Low backs usually top off at about your shoulders, like a bench seat. High backs go higher and usuaully form a head support. I have some seats that don't really look as high back as the seat cover pictures you see on the boxes, but it takes high backs to cover them.

Mine sound the same as Gary's. Seem taller than low backs, but not exactly a highback, as in what you'd see in a modern J**P. I also use highback seatcovers to cover them and they have extra material at the top. Looks sloppy, but they'll do.
Here's a pic of mine. -Jeff

I was looking at some today at Checker Auto parts. They also have a mid back(?) or something like that listed. I couldn't find any in store, but the image in the book made it look like what Newbies do. They are high backs, but straight across as opposed to tapering in. Mine taper, just not that high, so I get the extra cloth at the bottom, which can be easy to hide.
